The Office of Veterans Services' wants to find out more about the needs of women veterans. So the Office's Subcommittee on Women Veterans is distributing a survey addressing their unique needs. The VA estimates there are 14-thousand-women veterans who are permanent Hawaii residents. A Hawaii Women Military Veterans Task Force concluded that military women face many complex problems, including a high rate of Military Sexual Trauma and related re-entry issues concerning adequate health care, high rates of post traumatic stress disorder, joblessness and homelessness. Studies show women veterans are four times more likely to become homeless than women who have not served in the military. The survey is available at the Spark Matsunaga VA Medical Center Women's Health Clinic and all OVS offices on Kauai, Maui and the big Island until September 16th.
