Police have opened a first-degree arson and first-degree criminal property damage case after two vans caught fire in Palolo Valley. The fire was reported at about 3:30 a.m. at the Rainbow Market on Palolo Avenue. Police say the driver of a van apparently tried to break into the market by driving through its glass front doors. Metal poles in front of the swinging doors stopped the van. The van was then set on fire, according to Fire Captain Terry Seelig. It's considered a total loss. A second van in the parking lot was also set on fire.Police believe the fires were intentionally set. There were no injuries. Firefighters had the flames extinguished shortly after. Police closed off Palolo Avenue between Keanu and Paalea Streets while firefighters were working. It was reopened just after 5 a.m. No arrests have been made.
