Lawmakers Consider Extending School Year

Lawmakers Consider Extending School Year

State lawmakers are considering extending the school year by ten days.  Senator David Ige has introduced a bill that would increase the school year from 180 instructional days to 190.  If passed, the longer school year would begin in 2015.  The bill also would eliminate requirements for the minimum number of student instructional hours. Ige says increasing instructional days would increase student performance. If passed, the bill would take effect July 14th of this year.
